The Madison Dialogue seeks to make available, in one place, meeting reports, white papers, speeches, in-depth reports, and other documents. Of particular interest are draft documents related to the development of standards and verification systems in the sector.
Standards Development
- Madison Dialogue Diamonds Working Group.
The Madison Dialogue Diamonds Working Group has outlined a set of standards for ethical diamonds. This is the first of outlines to come from the Madison Dialogue working groups, and gives a broad outline of "The Way We Work".
- Council for Responsible Jewellery Practices.
CRJP is developing a Responsible Practices Framework, and a Code of Practices Implementation Model by which the Principles and Code of Practices will be implemented throughout the Diamond and Gold jewellery supply chain and the Council's Members will be held accountable to the standards that they define.
- The Diamond Development Initiative.
A unique effort to address the problems of African artisanal diamond diggers and their families by bringing NGOs, governments and business together in a common effort that aims to convert diamonds from a fuel for war into an engine for development.
- Framework for Responsible Mining.
The Framework explores state-of-the-art social and environmental improvements, providing recommendations for: governments and government agencies; civil society groups, including NGOs; the mining industry; financial institutions, including public and private banks as well as insurers; and, retailers and other companies seeking to source or invest responsibly.
- The Initiative for Responsible Mining Assurance.
A multi-sector effort, launched in Vancouver, Canada, in June 2006, to develop and establish a voluntary system to independently verify compliance with environmental, human rights and social standards for mining operations.
- Standard Zero for Fair Trade Artisanal Gold.
A set of draft principles and standards produced by a technical committee under the coordination of the Association for Responsible Mining. Standard Zero follows the characteristic Fair Trade grouping of social, economic, labour and environmental development standards.
